(b. 1972) is a Slovenian-born artist based in Cambridge, Mass. and Ljubljana.
He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana and Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf. As an artist he works mainly in installations and space design. His projects are focused on the relationship between private and public sphere. He refers to modernist utopian concepts of art and experiments within the field of design. Tobias Putrih is a winner of Vordemberge-Gildewart Foundation Award and 2nd place in a competition during the Warsaw Under Construction Festival (Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, 2010). Most recently he had his solo shows at Galerija Gregor Podnar in Berlin (A,H,O,I,!, 2011) and the Espace 315, Centre Pompidou in Paris (Siska, International; 2010). His other exhibitions include shows at BALTIC Center for Contemporary Art in Gateshead (Overhang, 2009), Kunsthaus in Zurich (Restless Subject, together with Runa Islam, 2008) and White Cube in London (together with Runa Islam, 2008).Tobias Putrih represented Slovenia at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007.
Tobias Putrih has designed a special auditiorium for Auditorium Moscow, which will be in use in the venue’s courtyard throughout the exhibition.
The project is realized as part of the International Cultural Programme of the Polish EU Presidency coordinated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
